Women in Film Kentucky is moving into its next chapter, with the election of a new set of officers and addition of three new members to its board of directors. Since its inception in 2022, the organization has built an incredible network of women in the film industry — fulfilling the vision that Co-Founders Laury Christensen and Lauren Fulwiler intended.
“From the very beginning, the goal was to create space for meaningful relationships — not just business cards exchanged, but trust, friendships and collaborations,” says Christensen. “Seeing those connections turn into actual paid work and career momentum is validating. Personally, it’s been powerful to watch people walk into WIFKY events unsure of their place in the industry and then leave with confidence, contacts, and opportunities they didn’t have before.”
Expanding WIFKY’s Offerings
Those events are expanding in the new year, building on a solid foundation. “This year, I'm so eager to expand our flagship events to the next level,” says long-time member and newly elected WIFKY Vice President Abi Van Andel, “and we’re so thrilled to be able to offer new programming to meet even more of the community’s needs.” Coming this year are rebooted screenwriting events, mentorship program, student-focused Fresh Lens Film Festival (June), and Oscar’s Gala on March 15th — with more to be announced soon.
Though she’s moving into an Advisory Council role, Christensen is excited for the future of the organization. “This board brings a really exciting mix of fresh perspective and commitment to the mission. I feel the momentum — people who are not only passionate about equity and representation, but who also understand how to turn ideas into action. I’m especially encouraged by the board’s willingness to listen, evolve, and think strategically about how WIFKY can continue to serve its members in tangible ways.”
